ABOUT US

Our aim

TreksandClimbs.com is a no nonsense information resource site for anyone interested in trekking or mountaineering. Our aim is to provide a worthwhile service to beginners, intermediate and experienced trekkers and mountaineers. That service includes, among other things, providing accurate and reliable information. Our sections that are dedicated to beginners are intended to provide the necessary information to enable beginners to make an informed decision as to whether trekking/mountaineering is for them. Where possible this information is made available free of charge. Neither TreksandClimbs.com nor it's directors offer technical advice or training in outdoor activities. We do, however suggest links to other companies who are qualified to offer such advice.

Who owns and operates TreksandClimbs.com?

TreksandClimbs.com is owned and operated by Rabbitte Pty Limited. Unlike many websites nowadays, we don't hide our company information away at the back of the site where you can't find it. We have nothing to hide here and you will find a link to our contact and company information page on most pages of the site. We are just a phone call or email away. If you have a question regarding trekking or mountaineering we will attempt to answer it for you. If we can't, we will try our best to refer you to someone who can.

Who is TreksandClimbs.com affiliated with?

We provide links to websites that we have a formal affiliate contract with. These affiliate sites provide related products and services that we feel may be of benefit to our visitors.

When one of our visitors purchases a product or service from an affiliate, TreksandClimbs.com receives a small commission from the sale. It is these commissions that enables TreksandClimbs.com to operate and consequently, enables us to provide much of the other information on the site free of charge.

Our affiliates are screened very closely before they are represented on TreksandClimbs.com to ensure that only the most reputable companies are represented here. A quick browse of the links on the left hand side of this page will produce some of the biggest and most respected names in the outdoor/travel industry. These are names that we are very proud to be associated with.

How do we source our information?

We gather information from only the most reliable sources. Much of what is featured here comes from hands-on experience. Our managing director Tony Rabbitte is a keen solo bushwalker with a passion for being 100% self sufficient in the outdoors. He regularly embarks on multi-day solo treks through Australia's rugged wilderness. He has also completed his TMC (Technical Mountaineering Course) in New Zealand's Southern Alps and has attempted three 6000m peaks in the Everest region of Nepal. In addition Tony has recently returned from a hill walking trip in the south west of Ireland.

Other information is sourced from various written publications. One such publication that has inspired this site is 'Being Outside' by Tim Macartney-Snape.

To most of our visitors Tim Macartney-Snape needs no introduction. He is without a doubt one of Australia's most prominent and most respected adventurers, having climbed Everest from sea level. Tim was also a part of the team that made the first Australian ascent of Mount Everest in 1984 and currently works as a guide for World Expeditions. Tim's book Being Outside is a must form any outdoor enthusiast and is available at our online book store.

Other information is sourced through reputable online publications, seminars and from speaking face to face with other experienced outdoors enthusiasts.
